Howard Harding, London, 21 Nov 2001 Beachill Beats World No1 Palmer In Major Toronto Upset England's unseeded Lee Beachill pulled off the biggest upset in the $50,000 YMG Capital Squash Classic in Canada when he fought back from a game down to defeat Australia's world No1 David Palmer, the top seed, 13-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-12 in the quarter-finals in Toronto. The sensational victory by the world No16 from Pontefract in Yorkshire - eight days before his 24th birthday - was the Australian's first PSA Tour defeat by a player outside the world top ten since February, since when he has reached six Tour finals, won the British Open and Hong Kong Open titles, and led Australia to success in the World Team Championships. Beachill, the British National champion who removed the England No1 Mark Chaloner in the previous round and upset world champion Peter Nicol in the British Open quarter-finals in June, faces another Australian Stewart Boswell in Thursday's semi-finals. Boswell, also unseeded but now ranked higher than his fourth-seeded quarter-final opponent David Evans, beat the Welshman 15-12, 15-9, 15-11 to book his appointment with Beachill.
