POWER PULVERIZES NICOL TO WIN YMG SQUASH CAPITAL CLASSIC -- Jonathon Power of Toronto dazzled a capacity crowd Friday night as he demolished arch-rival and world number-one Peter Nicol of Scotland Friday to win the $50,000 YMG Capital Squash Classic.

Power won the final 15-8, 15-4, 15-4 in 40 minutes to even his career record against Nicol at 11-11. It was also Power's second straight major tournament win. Last month he won the U.S. Open.

The spectators watched in disbelief as Power moved the world champion backwards, forwards and sideways at times virtually turning him into a pretzel. The Canadian's delicate drops, precision and quickness had Nicol gasping for air.

"Winning a major tournament here in Toronto is a fulfilment of a dream," said Power, who remained number-two in the new world rankings released Friday behind Nicol. "I hope this will inspire young Canadians to follow my path. I really appreciated the support and it gave me a lift."

While Nicol's heart never gave in his legs and lungs did after three gruelling matches earlier in the week. "I'm sorry the match was anti-climatic but Jonathon was just too good," Nicol admitted. "I was physically fine but felt a bit tired because I'm not match fit after my recent leg injury."
