Peter Nicol Earns Fourth Al Ahram Title at Power's expense

by CSN Louis Daigneau, Sept 9 2001

POWER LOSES FINAL AT AL AHRAM CAIRO

World champion and top-seed Peter Nicol of England defeated Jonathon Power of Toronto 15-8, 17-15, 15-11 in 60 minutes to win the $120,000 Al Ahram Squash Championship on Sunday.

It’s the fourth consecutive year Nicol has won this tournament and he’s now beaten Power six times in the past seven encounters and leads 13-11 overall. For Power, 27, it was his best international showing since winning the Masters here in March. Most of the top players, including Nicol and Power, who’ll be seeded 1-2 again respectively, zoom to North America for the U.S. Open in Boston. It runs this Thursday to Sunday. The competition will be held at Symphony Hall, the home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
