Porsch of LA, Feather Sports and JIVAGO Sponsor New-Format Event

Baj Briars
Mexico's #1 Samantha Teran is featured in the women's field in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles brings North American squash a new format event for the 2000's. It's an updated edition of the Mennon Cup Event that was so popular and successful in the 1980s in Toronto. This event brings the top player from each of three countries (USA, Mexico and Canada) in both a Men's and Women's pool.

Porsche of Downtown L.A. will present the 2006 Epstein Becker & Green North American Men & Women’s Professional Squash Championships, hosted by The Los Angeles Athletic Club. The event will feature the #1 male and female professional squash players from each of the three countries of Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Competition will be held at The LAAC’s international show-courts over the weekend of June 9-11. Confirmed to play are Canada’s #1 ranked player Graham Ryding and #1 ranked female Runa Reta. For Mexico, the #1 ranked male and female players include Eric Galvez and Samantha Teran. The United States will be represented by two former PSA and WISPA World #1 players, John White (Scotland) residing in Philadelphia, and Natalie Grainger,  (pictured) formally of South Africa, now living in Washington, DC.

Rounding out each of the four-player draws, for the women will be six-time and current USA National Champion, Latasha Khan of Seattle, WA. For the men, there will be former World #7 Stefan Casteleyn (Belgium) living in Santa Monica, CA.

The tournament, co-sponsored by Feather Sports USA and JIVAGO Fragrances, Paris & Beverly Hills, will feature the players in a round-robin format, with the men and women forming two four-player draws, playing each other in twelve separate professional matches over the course of the three-day weekend. Four matches will be played on each of the three days.

With their athleticism, speed and grace, these eight superb world-class athletes offer an unparalleled sporting spectacle in this highly athletic, difficult and exciting sport of squash.
