Cambridge, MA, – The US Open Squash Championships at Harvard University served as the centerpiece for the launch of SquashPower, LLC, www.squashpower.com, headed by the current world #2 squash professional, Jonathon Power. SquashPower is an integrated squash marketing and development company dedicated to empowering squash players around the world.

“SquashPower will expand the development of squash through education, promotion and grassroots programs,” said Jonathon Power, chairman of SquashPower. “Our goal is to help squash players reach their goals.”

Through its extensive network, SquashPower will concentrate on:

Education Initiatives – In the United States, growth at the junior level has jumped 125% over the past two years. Forbes Magazine has rated squash as the #1 sport for overall health and fitness. SquashPower will establish a wide range of youth initiatives to promote the sport and empower teaching professionals to deliver unrivaled educational programming to squash players around the world.

Growth – According to the World Squash Federation squash is played in over 147 countries by over 20 million squash players. Currently there are half a million squash players in the US and a quarter million in Canada. The United States Squash Racquets Association sees record growth in junior squash at all levels in the last two years with urban youth programs and high school teams increasing in popularity.

SquashPower will participate in world class tournaments and focus on developing key initiatives on a global basis to continue to grow the sport in existing centers of squash excellence and in emerging areas of squash growth such as the inner cities.

Empowerment – SquashPower will initiate strategic partnerships with business and trade associations, offer sports management, consulting, and representation of leading squash professionals. Numerous initiatives in youth programs will compliment programs developed for professional athletes. SquashPower will empower squash professionals through player representation, educational programming and marketing and endorsement opportunities.

“Driving strategic communications and constructing brand equity is an essential catalyst in all that we do,” said Rick Keating, CMO, SquashPower. "The marketing model has been exhausted in so many sports, but with squash it has yet to be fully realized. SquashPower will deliver solid results, improve financial opportunities for players, and increase revenue for teaching professionals which all support and accelerate the growth of the game.”

According to Kevin Klipstein, CEO of the United States Squash Racquets Association, “We expect SquashPower to be a great commercial catalyst in the US market. We support any organization focused on growing participation and we will look to partner with SquashPower to help us achieve our goal of ensuring squash accelerates its momentum as one of the country’s fastest growing sports.”

“SquashPower will encourage greater participation in squash and enable Canadians with talent and dedication to achieve competitive excellence,” said Linda MacPhail, executive director, Squash Canada. “I am particularly proud that this effort will be led by the greatest Canadian squash player of all time, Jonathon Power.”
