What do Grand Central Station in New York, the Pyramids in Cairo and the Eiffel Tower in Paris all have in common?
Apart from being tourist destinations, all of them have also been backdrops for squash tournaments on the famous, portable McWil Championship all-glass court.

Now it's Vancouver's turn.

Don't make your New Year's plans just yet. Vancouver will be the proud host of the Canadian Squash Invitational, December 29-31, 2005.

VancouverPATTON'S VISION
Vancouver entrepreneur Shawn Patton has the vision to accelerate the growth and visibility of squash in Vancouver (first) and elsewhere. Patton, who began forming the idea for this event in August, made the decision to go ahead after a visit to the British Open, just completed, in Manchester England. Patton, who bubbles with enthusiasm and energy and ideas for the growth of the sport, has arranged a highly visible venue in Vancouver's Harbor and also a TV contract for the first ever broadcast of squash in High Definition TV format.

Patton, who has reached out to some of the most creative minds in squash, as he coalesces his newly formed Adeptio Sports Management, is working with the likes of Eventis Sports Marketing (Peter Nichol), Jean Delierre, and Malcolm Willstrop.

THE FORMAT
The men's tournament will be an eight-person draw, featuring some of the top pros in the world and will have a women's pro demonstration event. There will aso be plenty of action for amateur players in the accompanying participation draws. And the schedule will be organized to allow amateur players to play and also watch the pro event.

On 'stage' under the sails at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Center will be a line-up of
the world's best and most exciting squash professionals - a line-up never before seen in Western Canada. Some of the already confirmed players are Jonathan Power (# 2 in the world), Amr Shabana (#5), Peter Nicol (#6), John
White (#9) and Vicky Botwright, ranked #7 in the female standings. In total, four former World #1's will be competing.

Jonathan Power, World #2, 15 Time Canadian Champion said in announcing his commitment, "This is going to be a premier event for Canadian squash featuring some of the greatest squash players in the world. I'm really excited to be part of an event that showcases squash at this level in Canada in general, and especially Vancouver because it's mainly seen in Toronto. It is great to be involved in an event and with organizers trying to grow the sport in different parts of Canada and this is a fabulous example of how it can be done."

The Canadian Squash Invitational (CSI) is a multidimensional event including a Pro Invitational (8-man draw), Women's Demonstration event, Trade Show, Canadian Junior Invitational (15 and under), Vancouver Open (Men & Women)
and Amateur squash tournament (to be played at venues all around the city).

"In a few short weeks we will see six of the world's top 10 athletes, representing countries such as Egypt, England, Scotland, France competing head to head against each other and Canada's best," said Shawn Patton, Event
organizer. "We can't wait to showcase our sport for all of Vancouver and considering the amazing support we have received in such a short amount of time, plans are already underway to make this an annual event."

In Canada, squash is played by more than 350,000 people, which is more than gymnastics, track and field and cycling combined. There are almost 700 squash facilities in Canada and 2,200 squash courts. Forbes magazine named
Squash the #1 sport for fitness and health ahead of rowing, swimming, basketball and others.
