Brown Women's Squash Upsets Princeton 5-4 to throw women's race up in the air

Dec. 2, 2000, Providence RI -- The Brown women's squash team's 5-4 victory over Princeton on December 2 marked the third ever victory for the Bears over the Tigers. Coupled with a 9-0 win over Tufts, and a tough 5-4 loss to Penn, the Bears are now 2-2 overall.

Brown dropped the first three positions, despite excellent play by freshman Avery Broadbent (New York, NY), senior Meroe Morse (Sumatra, Indonesia), and freshman Alicia Ringel (Brooklyn, NY).

The Bears rallied, though, to take five of the remaining six matches. Sophomore Allison Roche (Southborough, MA) earned a 3-0 win at the fourth spot, while senior Katherine Hughes (Wellesley, MA) was victorious at the fifth position, 3-0.

Senior Laurel Ried (Weston, CT) dropped a marathon 3-2 decision at number six, but Brown swept the remaining three matches. Sophomore Sarah Petrie (Cincinnati, OH) earned a 3-0 win at number seven, freshman Rebecca Schiller (South Norwalk, CT) won 3-1 at number, and freshman Robin Ried (Weston, CT) came away with a 3-0 victory at the ninth position, giving Brown the victory.
