Crosby Haines had a win at Penn but fell short at Princeton

John Power has quietly been building the Dartmouth Green men and women's squads into formidable competitors. The Dartmouth women have achieved particular growth this year.

On the cusp of the Women's Howe Cup "championship division" (the top eight teams), this year the Dartmouth Women have move firmly into the top four in the nation.

This weekend, Dartmouth traveled to both Princeton and Penn to test their standing going into the Howe Cup (National Championship) contests next weekend.

The two women's matches were both nail biters, with the Big Green barely falling to Princeton in a tiebreaker match that went down to the end of the fifith game when Francie Comey barely edged Crosby Haines, but Dartmouth reversed those fortunes in their sunday 5-4 win over Penn. At Penn, with the score tied at four apiece, sophomore Martha Ucko had the deciding point for the Big Green with a 3-1 victory. Also winning for Dartmouth were freshman Jessica Tory at No. 4; junior Crosby Haynes at No. 5; freshman Jessica Vyrostko at No. 6; and senior Farrar Evans at No. 9.

That boosted Dartmouth’s record to 11-4 overall, 3-3 in the Ivy League - their losses coming at the hands of Yale, Harvard, and Princeton.

In a complicated series of calculations, these results raised Dartmouth to #4 in the country, just above Penn, while Princeton, though defeating Dartmouth, only moved from 7th to 6th, as a consequence of their recent loss to Williams. Williams who defeated Princeton, ends up #7, behind Princeton on the strength of Princeton's win over Dartmouth.
