St. Lawrence University’s women’s squash team will graduate its first senior class in May, and second-year head coach Vijay Chitnis is hoping that the experience through his lineup will help the Saints crack the top ten in the rankings in just the fourth season as a varsity program.

The Saints will have three seniors and two juniors as part of their regular lineup with senior Sarah Kreiner (Buffalo/Nichols) giving future SLU players some lofty records to shoot at. Kreiner, who has played either one or two throughout her four years at St. Lawrence, went 18-1 a year ago and brings a career total of 34 match wins into her senior year. Joining Kreiner among the Saint seniors are captain Alex Rowland, (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest), who is 15-6 over her last two seasons and Counselo Pierrepoint (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest).

Junior Gigi Tuten (Villanova, PA/Hotchkiss), will make a run at Kreiner’s records after posting a 31-1 record at the three spot in the Saint lineup in her first two seasons of intercollegiate squash while junior Jessie Davie (South Berwick, ME/Berwick Academy) was 14-5 last year and sophomore Karinn Gallagher (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Springside Heights) was 13-7 as a freshman. Another returning player is Lara Kimble (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Dominican Convent) who joined the team in the second semester a year ago and went 11-0 at the top of the Saint lineup.

The Saints, who have climbed the rankings from 18th in their first year as a varsity to 14th in the second and 12th last season, will aim to crack the top ten with the help of their veterans and newcomers Jane Affleck (Wyndmoor, PA/William Penn Charter) and Lauren Burd (Baltimore, MD/Roland Park Country School).

Lauren Burd, a freshman, will immediately contribute. She was two-year squash captain at Roland Park School and Roland Park racquet player of the year.

Among the highlights for the Saints will be a home invitational in January as part of the dedication ceremonies for the Robie Squash Center, the Saint squash facility which features nine new ASB courts.
