NO. 14 AMHERST MEN'S SQUASH FALLS AT 11TH RANKED BROWN, 8-1 AMHERST, MA - Despite a 3-0 shutout win by first-year phenom Gifford Sommerkamp (Bethesda, MD), the 14th ranked Amherst College men's squash team fell at 11th ranked Brown University, 8-1, on Tuesday. The loss was Amherst's fourth straight - all to nationally-ranked Ivy League opponents - while Brown improved to 2-3 after beginning the season with a trio consecutive losses. Aside from Sommerkamp, junior co-captain John Holodnak (Wellesley, MA) and sophomore Asad Haque (Richmond Hill, Ontario) were the only other Amherst players to extend their Brown opponents past three games. Holodnak fell to fourth-seeded Brown senior Rishal Sawhney (New Delhi, India), 3-1 (9-3, 9-1, 3-9, 9-7), while Haque lost to seventh-seeded first-year Jay Beidler (Chicago, (IL), 3-2 (8-10, 10-8, 6-9, 9-6, 9-7). Amherst returns to action on Wednesday for a pair of home matches against visiting M.I.T. and Trinity College. Tuesday, January 22, 2002 @ Brown
