Dartmouth Steadily Gaining Ground

2001-02 Dartmouth Squash Outlook
by John Power, Dartmouth Squash Coach

Here is a quick rundown on the Dartmouth men's and women's teams:

MEN: All 9 starters have returned from the Hoehn Cup Champions (9th ranked in country) plus we have added two very solid freshmen: Ryan Donegan, hailing from New Orleans, ranked #3 junior in US in 2000-01, will play position 1 or 2 for the big Green. Tim Vipond from Vancouver has currently solidified the #5 spot. Our goal is to finish in the top 5 in the country.

We have a solid senior class. Playing their last season will be Hamed Anvari who has been consistently #1 or 2 on the team, the Judah twins James and Scott who have consisently improved each year. They should play #4 and #7 respectively. Captain Bill Reisner from St. Louis is currently sitting at #8 but has played as high as #4 and Brad Doline is fighting hard for that final spot on the team. Super sophs Andrei Prokopiw (3) Jesse Nisselson (6) Philippe de Richemont and Chris O'Connell 9 and 10 make up the rest of the starting lineup.

WOMEN: We lost two seniors at positions 2 and 7 but had a very solid recruiting year picking up four players with starting capabilities. It will be a dog fight sorting out the top 9. Number one and senior Sarah West will lead this very young squad backed up by 3rd year performers Charlotte Haldeman (2), Abigail Drachman-Jones (3) and Farrar Evans (7) The bulk of the rest of the starters will come from the freshman class - Kelly Sennatt, Courtney Schenk, Martha Ucko and Joceyln Woolworth. They look like they will find starting assignments along with sophmore Crosby Haynes. Juniors Beth Vadasdi, Emily Turner and Lys Verlenden along with 2nd year performers Kait Yaremchuk and Damon Grant are all in the mix making final spots difficult to determine at this point.

The women finished last season 6th overall but with 5-4 battles with Cornell (5), Yale (7), Brown (8), Williams (9) and Bowdoin (10). This year with early exhibition wins over Penn and Cornell the Big Green are looking at 4th as a realistic finish.

The men will be training for two weeks in Australia before Christmas while the women will be training and competing in Montreal at this time preparing themselves for the winter matches ahead.
