2001-02 Squash Program Outlook
The St. Lawrence squash program is in its third year, so it's relatively new. However, last year our women's team finished 14th in the country. Already this year the women have posted wins over Vassar, Tufts, Hamilton, and William Smith. This weekend (November 30th-December 2nd) we play Middlebury, Wesleyan, Bates, Bowdoin, Wellesley and Colby at the Wesleyan Tournament. We have six glass backed international courts and next year are, possibly, building four more. As for myself, I'm originally from Canada, but graduated from Brown University in 1994.
New Coach Vijay Chitney hope to build this program, especially the men's side which is lacking in quality. However, we have a relatively strong no.1, Andrew Constantine, who will do well this year. He went 2-2 against the same teams the women played. Vijay Chitnis takes over as the head coach of the St. Lawrence University men's and women's squash teams in the 2001-2002 season. The squash program is entering just its third season as a varsity sport at St. Lawrence. Chitnis was an All-America squash player at Brown University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in eastern religions. He has spent time as a coach at several levels, mostly in Canada, where he taught on the club level for a number of years. He also had a stint at Brock University, which is located near Niagara Falls, Canada.
