Vassar College Women Look to Improve

2001-02 Women's Squash Outlook
by Michael Levin, Vassar College

The Vassar Brewers look to improve upon a strong 2000-2001 campaign. Last year’s team showed flashes of brilliance, finishing second at the Seven Sister’s Championship and moving up Division C at the Howe Cup.

Despite losing its top two players to graduation, Vassar is optimistic that a foursome of freshmen can step into the top spots. The infusion of talent, led by Sara Wood, will greatly enhance the Brewers’ depth and help the team out in the middle. The Brewers will face a tough schedule this year. Except for St. Lawrence, no team finished behind Vassar in the season’s final poll.

A match-up against top-10 finisher Dartmouth in the season’s final week highlights the slate. Coach Jane Parker already sees improvement in comparing this year’s team to last’s. “We are better technically and tactically.” She also points to an improvement in conditioning, which the team stressed during the off season.
