Harrington - Inaurgural GWU Coach

The George Washington University squash program has entered a new era. For the past twenty-five years the program has been built and headed by Professor and coach Charles Elliott. The club has now been given varsity status by the university and will be headed by coach Simon Harrington. With the support of the school behind the program, a wealth of interest has been generated by students to jump on board.

The students range in experience and come from all over the world, with South African, Richard Munclinger expected to head the squad and Freshman, Dhruv Singh expected to play a competetive number two position. The varsity status placed upon the team has added some pressure but has certainly got all the players eager and ready to go. The team hopes to simply achieve good physical conditioning, that they in turn believe will lead to more competetive play.

Returning players are Tyler Wallace who did not know about the program until midway through last year but immediately jumped to the number one position.

Also key to the team is Matt Navarro. He will be instrumental in getting all the players through their University and school obligations. He played the number three position last year but should be in a more suitable location this year where he hopes to really compete on an even keel.

A key addition is Dhruv Singh who enters GWU having reached a high level of ability in six years of playing the game. He was a ranked regionally in his native India and George Washington is expecting great things from this young player.

Richard Munclinger is a first year grad-student that originally played at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Once all the details of being an international and grad student are seen to, Richard should fill the #1 spot.

The GWU nine are looking forward to their inaugural year as a bona fide varsity team in the GWU sports family.
