Starting a New Program

January 1, 2008

Dear Prospective New College Squash Team:

We are writing on behalf of the men’s and women’s Collegiate Squash Association (C.S.A.). We are contacting you about our mission of expanding the college game of squash.

The men and women currently have 92 teams participating in the regular season and year-end team championships. Our goal is to expand that number by offering support and assistance to colleges and universities who have an ability to create a program. This is directed to institutions that currently have squash facilities or access to squash courts.

Through exciting programs made possible by our season sponsor, Bear Stearns, the CSA is offering emerging team grants to support new teams as well as special support to women's teams that enter emerging five man teams in the national championship.

There are currently institutions participating that are “Club Teams” that financially support themselves. The “Club Teams” play in the regular season and the year-end championships. The key with these teams is an individual or group who is willing to organize and promote the creation of a team.

Our associations would like to assist in this process by advising and supporting the formation of a program. We have enclosed a brief summary about starting a team and are available to help implement a plan. Nine players compete in matches, but we are exploring the idea of a five-person team if necessary to get a program up and running.

Please pass this information to any individual who is appropriate as the key person to starting a squash team. Our executive administrator, Preston Quick, will be available to assist as well as ourselves. Refer to our website collegesquash.com for more details on our association, teams, and other pertinent information.

We look forward to hearing from you and exploring all possibilities toward your institution becoming involved with college squash.

Sincerely,

Ron Beck       ronbeck@squashtalk.com
