Competition
lives up to rankings
The Vassar women faced off against both Amherst College and Colby
College at the Mt. Holyoke/Smith Invitational in Northampton, MA.
Amherst College, currently ranked 10th in the nation, was always
going to be a handful for the Brewers. But Colby was just a single
slot higher than Vassar at 17 so hopes were high of an upset.
Vassar met a Colby team that had added 4 top players
returning from study abroad. In the end Vassar fell 7-2 but there
were some titanic struggles. Sara Wood took her opponent to 5 games
and Katie Seigle went down 3-1. It was disappointing for Vassar
and it was difficult to get a full head of steam for the next even
tougher opponent.
Amherst won convincingly 9-0 but head coach Jane
Parker was pleased that the players battled hard against this next
tier of competition. Emily Morris and Camilla Lancaster went down
3-1 and 3-2 respectively but had some excellent rallies.
College Squash Association Rankings: Amherst 10th,
Colby 17th, and Vassar 18th.
