Acton,
MA. Jan 4, 2007 -
The Yale and Trinity
men's match was unexpectedly moved up and is in the midst
of being played at the Treddy
Ketcham Invitational. Well
not technically, but the two powerhouse teams are both well
represented at the event. Four Trinity players entered the
6.0 draw, as did three Yale men.
Simba Muhwati was the only
Trinity player ousted in Wednesday's first round, losing
in five to New York's Eric Christiansen. Baset Chaudhry,
Supreet Bhuie and Manek Mathur were dominant representatives
of the Bantams, all winning 3-0.
"The tournament has been really good so far," said Chaudhry. "It's
a fun tournament and is good for us to get in some match
play."
Muhwati shared those sentiments, noting
that since they have been on break there has been a small
group of them playing each other.
"It's good to get some matches against other players," he
said. "That is a nice thing about coming to this tournament."
Trinity's
representative in the 5.5 draw, Travis Judson, made his team
proud, also winning three love.
The Bulldogs are playing tough
too. Yale captain Moshe Sarfaty will face Christiansen on
Thursday, with fresher legs than his opponent, as he had
a fairly quick 3-0 first round win.
"Since we are still on break, we wanted to take the time
to prepare ourselves for big matches," Sarfaty said. "This
tournament is a great experience for our players as it offers
competitive matches for everyone and gives us a different
opportunity."
In the only Bantam/Bulldog match so far,
the win went to the Bantams, with Manek Mathur defeating
Sharyar Aziz. Other Bulldogs playing include Ho Ming Chiu
in the 6.0 and Ethan Oetter in the 5.5.
While Yale and Trinity
might not actually meet until January 23 in New Haven, they
are certainly getting a good glimpse of each other in New
York City.
