Cheetahs and more

January 7th -Kirsten Carlson chatted online with Penn Women's Head Coach Jack Wyant before he turned the reigns over to senior Chloe Wynne, for another look into their adventure in South Africa. It seems the team is getting everything they had hoped for on court, as well as some fun surprises off court. Here is some of her chat with Jack and Chloe from Monday morning (South Africa time).

SQUASHTALK: Hi Coach. How's the trip going?

COACH JACK WYANT: It's going great!  We've seen so many things and met great people everywhere.   The squash people have been fantastic!

SQUASHTALK: That's awesome.

COACH JACK WYANT: We've seen major sights like Table Mountain and the great beaches. We've been shopping and got to see a cricket test match, which was really cool.

One of our objectives was to make friends in addition to seeing a fabulous city and playing matches versus quality competition, which has happened.

ENTER PENN SENIOR CHLOE WYNNE…

SQUASHTALK:  Hey Chloe. How have you enjoyed the trip so far?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: The trip has been AMAZING! We have learned so much about the culture just in the past week

SQUASHTALK: Like what?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Well one day when we were going to one of the craft markets we asked our cab driver to teach us how to count in Afrikaans. Also after our matches we have been able to take part in the post match customs of the different clubs. So far we have all been roasted in front of the group and it has been pretty funny.

SQUASHTALK: Like a comedy roast?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Yes, like being called out for embarrassing moments, or losing 3-0 or beating an old man 3-0.

SQUASHTALK: Nice. How'd you do when it was your turn?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE:  Ha ha. Well, unfortunately I lost both of my matches so you can imagine what our host had to say about me when my turn came.

SQUASHTALK: So it seems like you girls are continuing the bonding you are known for.

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Definitely.

SQUASHTALK: What has been the highlight of the trip for you?

PENN, CHLOE WYNEE: Well there have been two things that were incredible for me. First, yesterday we got to pet live cheetahs!

SQUASHTALK: Full grown cheetahs?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Yes. That was kind of a rush. They are actually very docile. The cheetahs were in a rehabilitation center and all the proceeds of the "encounters" with them go to protecting them in the wild.

And then the most amazing thing was going to the end of Cape Point, which seemed like the end of the world.

SQUASHTALK: Okay, so how did your second squash match as a team go? Did you guys win?

And how is what you're learning on court there going to help you when you get back to Penn?

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Our second match against Durbanville was great. We won 8-5 and it was a lot of fun.

It's always great to play against different people and on different courts because it helps you to learn how to adjust to new conditions more quickly.

SQUAHTALK: Thanks Chloe!  Enjoy the rest of your trip. I am glad I got to "talk" with you.

PENN, CHLOE WYNNE: Ha ha. Thank you!

Look for one more chat before the Penn team heads home and jumps right back into the intercollegiate season-and the not quite 80-degree weather they are currently enjoying.
