Nov
1 2007 - The College Squash Association announced today
an exciting opportunity for newly organized women's
squash club programs to obtain funding from the CSA
to attend the Emerging Team Championship Cup presented
by Bear Stearns.
The new
Women's Emerging Team National Tournament will
take place concurrently with the Howe Cup National Championships
in late February.
"Our goal is to give women on campuses without active programs
the incentive and boost to organize a group of five
women to actively compete in February and to jumpstart
an ongoing organized squash program, " explained
CSA women's vice president, Shona Kerr.
"We have
been wanting to start this program for several years,"
said team development chairman David Talbott. "Now with
the support of Bear Stearns, we can proceed."
The tournament
will involve teams of five undergraduate women each, limited
to programs that have not had full-fledged intercollegiate
squash programs in the past.
Any team
that assembles a group of five committed players and enters
the event, will have their hotel lodging and meal costs
at Princeton NJ covered for the weekend.
Women's
clubs interested in entering the Emerging championships
should contact the CSA's executive director Ron Beck at
ronbeck@squashtalk.com.
The Naval
Academy has already announced it will be entering a team
of five women in this new event.
