St Lawrence Beats Hamilton to Secure Second Place

St Lawrence College , Nov 18 2007 -

Rochester Wins Men's Liberty League

Pre-tournament favorite Rochester justified that status with an 8-1 win over two-time defending champion St. Lawrence in the first match of the 2007 Liberty League Championships at SLU’s Robie Squash Center on Saturday and went on to sweep the field in winning its first league title.

The top three in the Rochester lineup went unbeaten as Jim Bristow, Hameed Ahmed and Will Newnham did not lose a game in the tournament as Rochester turned back Hamilton 8-1 and Vassar 9-0 before wrapping the title up with a 9-0 win over Hobart.

The host Saints and Hamilton battled it out for second place as SLU bounced back from its loss to Rochester with a 9-0 win over Vassar and an 8-1 win over Hobart. Hamilton beat Hobart 9-0 in its first match of the tournament and topped Vassar 9-0 on Sunday.

St. Lawrence finished second after beating Hamilton 7-2, sweeping matches one through five. The Saints finished the tournament 3-1 with Hamilton 2-2, Hobart 1-3 and Vassar 0-4.
