Chapel Hill,
Oct. 26. The Cavaliers came south today and pasted both North Carolina
and Duke in a triangular squash match at the UNC courts in Chapel
Hill. Virginia beat the Tar Heels and Duke both by shut-outs, 7-0.
Virginia was
led by Freshman Dan Bracey who lost only ten points all day playing
at Number One, dumping both Carolina's Andrew Wilson and Duke's
Adrian Lam, three games to none in each case. It was only slightly
different up and down the ladder, as the Cavaliers had little trouble
with their opponents. At Two, Captain Tyler Hinckley defeated UNC's
Jon Philpot in three tough games and Duke's Ryan Vasan in an easier
round. At Three, Santiago Falconi disposed of Jay Ratchford of the
Tar Heels and Captain Erika Knowles of Duke. At Four Jay Subhash,
at Five John Warren, at Six Ben Warfield and at Seven Todd Hinckley
had similar outcomes.
In the other
match, Duke defeated Carolina 4-2. The top two Tar Heels won
their matches, Wilson defeating Lam, 3-1, and Philpot taking Vasan,
3-0,
but after that it was all Blue Devils. Knowles beat Ratchford, 3-0,
Mike
McGahan downed Drew Erteschik, 3-1, E. J. Jun dropped Matt Clark,
3-1, and Alexis Beckford topped Bonnie Clarke, 3-0. In an exhibition
match, Beckford also defeated UNC's Lisa Bevevino.
In what is
becoming a nice squash tradition in the ACC, the three teams went
out for pizza and congeniality after the match.
