Bates Men Have Bright Outlook for 05-06

Men's 05-06 Season Outlook:
Bates College moves into it's second year of competition at the new Bates Collee Squash Facility.

05-06 looks bright for the men's Bates Bobcats, with the top of the line-up returning, coming off a 17-6 season in 04-05. Returning to the Bates line-up are #1 Ricky Weisskopf '08, #2 Gary Kan '07, and #3 co-captain Jamie White '06, all of whom had great success last year.

Weisskopf, from El Salvador, finished as an All-American last year (one of two rookies in the league to earn the award), was Bates' first men's squash All-American and earned Bates' male Athlete of the Year Award, in going 23-3 in season play.

Kan, from Hong Kong, reached the finals of the B-flight at individual nationals last year, but will be abroad first semester this year, in Scotland. White is co-captain, along with sophomore sensation Sean Wilkinson '08, from Zimbabwe. Rounding out the returners are Peter Goldsborough '06, Guillermo Moronta '06, Chris Foster '07, Rob Munro '08, and Zach Smith '08. Three or four new players will add depth to this team for 05-06, as well.

A strong class of incoming freshmen for Bates in the 05-06 season include; Deacon Chapin and Chip Russell of Boston; Marc Taggart of Pennsylvania; and Charlie Johnson of Georgia.

All-American Ricky Weisskopf is upbeat: "We expect this year to be better," added Weisskopf. "We have all been working really hard to have a great next season."
