Hamilton HHamilton Women: Riding High for 05-06

Men's 05-06 Season Outlook:
The Hamilton women's squash team is still riding a high after its breakthrough season last year. Winning eight more matches, rising 5 spots in the rankings and jumping from winning the Epps Cup to winning the consolation round in the Walker Division is going to be a hard act to follow. Graduating co-captains Caroline Steers and Kat Tuckerman have certainly left some room in the ladder. However, last year's large squad had many players waiting in the wings who are now poised to fill the void. Moreover, there is undeniable squash excitement in the air as construction begins on a magnificent new, 10-court facility, to be completed in the spring of 2006.

The teams's schedule is packed with lots of away tournaments, including the Liberty League Championships in November, the Wesleyan Invitational in December, the Yale and Smith/Mount Holyoke tournaments in January, and the Vassar Team Challenge in February. A highlight will be a trip to Toronto in January, combining international competition with big city entertainment; nothing beats Canada in the depth of winter!

Heading up the team will be returning sophomores Betsy McDermott and Natalie Schwerin. Both finished last year in spectacular fashion at the Howe Cup, with Natalie beating all three of her opponents in breathtaking, come-from-behind, five-game matches. Sophomore Sarah Coleman, a long-time tennis star, should continue her meteoric climb up the ladder as she deepens her understanding of squash. Providing leadership for the team as captain will be senior Sarah Reinhoff, returning from a semester in Germany and Austria. These key players are going to have to help compensate for our juniors taking advantage of semester abroad programs!

The team has high hopes for freshman Madeleine Sullivan, who will bring to the team her experience playing varsity squash for Convent of the Sacred Heart and at the famed Apawamis Club of Rye, NY. With close ties to both present and former Hamilton players, she is going to fit in quickly with the team.
