Northeastern Club Upbeat for 05-06

Men's 05-06 Season Outlook:
Northeastern University moves into it's second year (and first full year) of competition at the great new Northeastern Squash Center.

Last season was a foundation year with an enthusiastic, but inexperienced squad, none of whom had had squash experience prior to Northeastern.

After this successful, but winless, first year competeting in the CSA, Northeastern Husky Squash looks forward to the 2005-2006 season.

After finishing 42nd in 2004-05, the outlook is upbeat for the Huskys who have just welcomed their first recruitment class to campus September 1. Northeastern heads into 2005-2006 play with a difficult schedule against more experienced squads. Key match ups this year are a home match against Amherst, MIT, Penn State, and Middlebury.

The team will look to Steven Portela, Michael Prince, and Adam Bolduc to anchor the nucleus of the lineup.

Twin brothers Chris and James Birkins from Tabor Academy are Northeastern's first ever recruited players. Chris played #2 for Tabor last season and made it to the Quarter Finals at the 2005 Interscholastic tournament losing to eventual Champion. James played #6 and was the 2 seed at the Interscholastics and had an early exit due to injury. Both have experience and ability and should improve their games quickly in the college arena. The program will be considerably stronger with the twins playing at 1 and 2.
