Smith College Looks forward to the 05-06 Campaign

Team's 05-06 Season Outlook:
Smith College is located in Northampton, Massachusetts – the Number 1 Liberal Arts Town in America.  A vibrant community of music, theatre, pubs restaurants and almost non-existent crime make Northampton one of New England’s most sought after cultural centers.

Life at Smith is not just confined to campus as students take classes and socialize with 31,000 plus male and female students attending one of the Five Colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, UMASS, MHC, Smith).  This preponderance of males should be noted by the 95% of high school girls who will not consider attending a women’s college because “there are no boys”. Smith’s female student-athletes get 100% of the available resources: 5 ASB courts and the country’s only Level 4 Coach with both National Team coaching experience and a master’s degree in coaching.

Smith’s squash program has a unique mission: to take players who have never played before college and turn them into good players.  Year after year, early season losses are reversed as the team improves throughout the season.  In the last 10 years, two 12th place team CSA finishes and two individual Ann Wetzel Awards are testimonial to the tremendous success of the program.

The 2005-06 team has one player with high school playing experience (sophomore Kate Whitesell) and 13 new players – many of them first years.  Like last year, the team expects to challenge for the top of the CSA third division led by returners Jenn Recht ’06, Becky Spalding ’06, and Talia Williams ’08.
