The Tufts 05-06 Youth Movement

Men's 05-06 Season Outlook:
THE YOUTH MOVEMENT RUNS DEEP

Last season, with six freshmen, the Tufts Jumbos made a mad dash through the closing weeks of the season to nearly win the Summers Cup from the seventh seeded position. That moved the team's last season's final ranking up seven positions in the final week.

Nearly the whole team returns this year only losing Fernando Kriete and Dominic Wong. The team returns the six sophomores: Jake Gross, Nelson Schubart, Kris Leetavorn, Jonah Peppiatt, Cyrus Kharas, and Lee Kellogg. Also back are the senior corps who include co-captains Spencer Maxwell and Tom Keidel along with Dan Karlin back from the Aussie outback and Pranav Tripathi. The lone junior is the much improved David Linz.

Coming in are an additional "freshman six" who are even deeper than the class of '08. Brian Rassel (Brother Rice), Chris Devereaux (Nobles and Greenough), Chris Delaney (Lawrenceville), Chris Martin (Pomfret), Josh Levinson (Hotchkiss), and Kris Subhash (Potomac) are expected to make this edition perhaps the deepest team in Tufts history. But then, it seems, every team has gotten deeper. The big question is to see whether the seniors can lead the twelve sophs and rookies to a big season.

It is expected that Jake Gross will hold down the number one spot where he had a 16-4 record last season. At that pace, he may very well shatter the all-time career win record at Tufts by his junior year. Spencer Maxell, Kris Leetavorn, Nelson Schubart, Dan Karlin, David Linz and Tom Keidel may hold down most of the varsity spots but it appears that more than a few freshmen can make a challenge into the upper half of the line-up.

Another novel development is the realignment of the coaching positions. Doug Eng, formerly headed up both men and women but will now only coach the men giving a more focused approach.

The team starts off with a bang, hosting a tournament in November before traveling out to New York to play Hobart and Hamilton. Later the team will travel down to Pennsylvania for the first time to take on Franklin and Marshall and Navy.
