Sarah Fitz-Gerald's Notebook - Leilani beats me this time

Sarah Fitz-Gerald in New York The first womens match started out well with Fiona taking the game to carol but couldn't' maintain the pressure and made some errors with her volley boast and lost the game 9/5 and crumbled after that.

She commented she couldn't get in as Carol volleyed and put too much pressure on her forcing the weak return.

My match with Leilani was always going to be tough. I struggled with my aggression and consequently my concentration during the match and gave Lani 1-0 led but managed to fight back in the second and won the third too easily.

Lani fought back in the 4th and I didn't respond.

We saved the best for last, but Lani went for shot that all worked and left me stranded at 7-3. We had a mega rally which was the best of the match which I won and was able to feed from that and caught up to 6-7.

Lani, I think, remembered the British and grabbed any opportunity and took and it worked, slamming two shots low and hard which struck in the nick and I was unable to dig them out. Lani felt relieved to have won, I felt relieved too, as pressure was off me, as most thought I was unbeatable at the moment and it will revive my hunger for winning.

I wish Lani the best for tomorrow!
