2001 Cathay Pacific Open: late scratches
...Howard Harding Press Briefs.... BARADA & CHARMAN-SMITH OUT OF HONG
KONG OPEN Barada, the world No11 who was stabbed in the back by an unknown assailant outside his Cairo home in March last year and has played only one match on the PSA Tour this year, is suffering from "severe sprain in his lower back", and has been advised by his doctor to "rest in bed for two days and to rest from any exercise for at least ten days." Compatriot Amr Shabana will take the 13th seed's place in the PSA Tour's first 'Super Series Platinum' event, boasting a $100,000 prize fund - and will face a qualifier in the first round. Scotland's Senga Macfie is the beneficiary of 4th seed Charman-Smith's withdrawal as a result of an ankle injury. Macfie faces England's former world champion Cassie Campion, the 11th seed, in the opening round, while Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu who was originally due to meet Charman-Smith will now meet another English opponent Stephanie Brind, the new 8th seed.
