Three times World Squash Champion Sarah Fitz-Gerald won the Corona TercelMexican Open making it her fifth (5) Women's International Squash Players Association (WISPA) World Tour title for 2000.

Fitz-Gerald defeated fellow Australian and Commonwealth Games team member Rachael Grinham 9/7 9/6 9/2 in 35 mins in front of a enthusiastic Mexican crowd on the glass court in the Plaza Inn shopping mall.

Fitz-Gerald had a tough task putting a stop to the young Australian as Grinham played her best match ever against the 3 times World Champion pushing her to the limit only going down 9/7 in the first game. The second saw Fitz-Gerald lead 5-2 before the score was tied and a ball change at 6-6 gave her advantage needed to run out the game 9/6. Fitz-Gerald seemed to find her feet and generate the pace required to put her opponent on her back feet to take the match 9/2 and her 5th World Tour title taking it to a total of thirty-five (35), more than any other current player.
