SARAH FITZ-GERALD WINS MUNICH OPEN TO CLAIM FOURTH CONSECUTIVE TITLE IN 2001

Reading, UK. For Immediate Release - Three times World Squash Champion, Sarah Fitz-Gerald, claimed her 41st Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) Tour title and fourth consecutive title in 2001 today by defeating World No 1 Leilani Joyce in emphatic style in the final of the Truluma and Studiosus Reisen Munich Open.

Fitz-Gerald thrilled a capacity crowd to a dazzling display of power squash, overwhelming her opponent and securing a 9/1 9/2 9/6 victory in only 38 minutes. In 2001, Fitz-Gerald has now won all four events in which she has entered and astonishingly has yet to drop a single game in all forms of competition. In the first round of Germany’s premier event, Fitz-Gerald defeated World Junior Champion Nicol David (9-5 9-3 9-0), followed by victories over World 11 Stephanie Brind (9-0 9-2 9-0) and World No 5 Tania Bailey (9-2 9-3 9-0).

After winning her record fourth Munich Open, Fitz-Gerald announced on her web site http://www.sarahfitz-gerald.com “My form this year is the culmination of months on the practise court and in the gym. My performances in the Munich Open have given me considerable satisfaction. I am confident I can make further improvements in my game and look forward to challenging the worlds best players in the lead up to the World Championships to be held in my home town of Melbourne in October.”

Fitz-Gerald will next play the Grand Prix finals, Hurghada, Egypt at the beginning of April.

Sarah Fitz-Gerald, is a professional squash player from Melbourne, Australia. Sarah is three-times World Squash Champion and winner of thirty-five (41) Women's International Squash Player Association (WISPA) World Tour titles, making her the most successful present day player. After holding the #1 ranking position unbroken for two (2) years, Sarah underwent knee surgery in December 1998 and May 1999, returning to competition in 2000 winning the WISPA Glidden Open and Greenwich Open in the USA, the Rosebowl Classic in England and the Com4Net open in Munich.
