MIT has traditionally had difficulty fielding a strong team, and is having particular difficulties at present due to the poor physical condition of their courts and the lack of international courts. This is too bad because many incoming international students at MIT are strong squash players. We hope this situation improves in the next few years.

Penn Women's squash enters a rebuilding period with the departure of coach Demer Holleran, while the Penn men begin a period of renewal with freshman with new coach Craig Thorpe-Clarke.

Princeton is currently ranked third nationally (01-02 preseason) in both Men's and Women's squash. Under the leadership of Gail Ramsay, the Princeton Women's squash program is firmly established as a program that can put out a fiercely competitive squad under a variety of recruiting conditions. Says Ramsay "Princeton has a lot to offer to student-athletes. I look for talented athletes who are also interested in a challenging academic atmosphere. We have a history of outstanding squash over the past 30 years and I am committed to continuing this level of excellence." In recent years, she has been successful both in recruiting and developing that talent, resulting in back-to-back national titles in 1998 and 1999, and with the team reaching the finals of the National Championships in the other four years. The Princeton program also put a high emphasis on good sportsmanship, reflected in its success in winning the Chaffee Trophy (the sportsmanship award) on three different occasions. "I don't just want to run a winning program" says Ramsay "I want our women to be admired for their behavior on court as well as for their squash skills." The program also has the advantage of the recently completed 10-court squash facility at Princeton's Jadwin gym (the venue for the World Men's Junior tournament in the summer of 1998) in addition to the five courts already completed in the Dillon gym.

Trinity's squash teams has enjoyed a meteoric rise under coach Paul Assaiante and Wendy Bartlett. This year both the men's and women's programs could be the class of the nation. The Men's team enjoys an 01-02 preseason ranking of #1 and the Women's #2.

Tufts squash program, under the enthusiastic leadership of Doug Eng, has a strong heritage including past stars Will Bigelow of the late 70's and Sahki Khan of the mid 80's.

Vanderbilt has a small, but succesful squash program. There are 2 international courts located in the student rec center. There is not a formal team, but the club is very active in tournaments in the southeast.

We are in Blacksburg, Virginia. Virginia Tech only has one converted squash court, but we hope to have another one added this summer. Our association is a squash ladder, and is run exclusively by e-mail. Our ladder consists of students, faculty, staff, and community members. We have two women on our ladder, both of whom are fine squash players. Several of us here travel to tournaments in other States, and sometimes to Canada. We are always looking for more players, and contacts with other clubs. The main contact person is Stan Cook, at stancook@bev.net

Williams this year has a team to match its brilliant new twelve court complex. The beautifully architected facility, somehow fits a spacious squash facility in amidst a dense group of athletic buildings. Williams has a strong team this year that could finish as high as fourth on the men's side

Outlook 2001-02: Yale, with a wonderful new squash facility, is home to the most original coaching duo in American squash. Dave Talbott, men's squash coach for the past half dozen years, is complemented by his brother Mark Talbott, former North American champion, who is now well established as the women's coach. On the men's side, Yale brings new freshman star Josh Schwartz to strengthen its program.
