US Mens Intercollegiate news flashes!

Feb 20 1999 update: As anticipated, Princeton was unable to stand up to the power of the Trinity men's team, falling in an 8-1 defeat. Peter Yik, playing at the number two position, scored the only win, a 3-2 victory over Behl of Trinity. Marcus Cowie defeated Amir Give'on in straight games, 3-0. Thus, Princeton was unable to match its early season USSRA five man team victory. (for scores - see the NISRA website).

NISRA announces mid-season ranking: Trinity, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton hold the top four spots as expected. [ Check the rankings here ]

Feb 17 1999 update: Harvard claims Ivies with 9-0 decisive win over Yale on Wednesday evening.

Feb 15th 1999 News Flash: Princeton can't make up for their lack of depth, Harvard and Yale head into intercollegiates hoping to upset Trinity. On Sunday, February 14th, Harvard rolled over Princeton, 6-3, effectively deflating Princeton's hopes for the year. Harvard's strong depth, and Princeton's lack of depth, proved to be the difference. Meanwhile, Trinity rolled over F&M, despite having almost half their team crippled with the flu.

Feb 8 1999 update: The college race clarifies: Yale just nips Princeton, 5-4, amidst a raucous crowd. It all comes down to the fifth game in the last match at the number five position... Trinity decisively downs Harvard 8-1 in Cambridge in front of another very large, loud, and enthusiastic crowd [Results of the matches here] Meanwhile, Amherst downs Brown 6-3 and edges Williams 5-4 to solidify a number six national ranking. Dartmouth blanked Penn decisively, 9-0; but Penn closely edged Navy 5-4 to keep themselves in the top 10.

BIG NEWS: Princeton upsets Trinity in USSRA Teams, the weekend of January 8-10! Although this result doesn't "count" in the intercollegiate standings, it certainly throws down the gauntlet for the rest of the season, and shows that Trinity is, after all, not invincible Read this Daily Princetonian online article.
