Boswell
Resumes Winning Ways in New Zealand
Less than a week after wrapping up the South Island Championships
in Christchurch, Australia's former world number four Stewart Boswell
has cruised into the quarterfinals of the PSA Tour's Souththland Squash
Classic in Invercargill, New Zealand. Boswell proved too good for Japanese
fifth seed Takehide Hota in the opening round, winning 9-4 9-5 9-2. The
26-year-old from Canberra also had little difficulty in disposing of Malaysia's
Kim Lee Wong in the second round, marching into the last eight with an
11-4 11-2 11-4 victory.
Top seed Kashif Shuja is also into the quarters. The kiwi
number one had the benefit of a bye in the first round, and made short
work of his second round clash against Australian Scott Arnold, winning
11-3 11-4 11-6.
But the match of the day was an epic first round battle
between Malaysian ninth seed Nafzahizam Adnan and Scotsman Kristen Johnson.
The two players went to tie breaks in three of five games, with Johnson
eventually winning 11-6 in the fifth after 68 minutes. However, the Scot
was then forced to retire injured after one game in his second round clash
against second seeded Wai Hang Wong from Hong Kong.
In the women's WISPA World Tour event, top seeded Australian
Dianne Desira advanced with a clinical 9-2 9-3 9-2 win over kiwi teenager
Joelle King.
Second seed Louise Crome from New Zealand was also untroubled
in a 9-6 9-6 9-7 win over Australian qualifier Lisa Gray.
However, Japanese
fourth seed Mami Nishio's tournament is over, after a 9-6 9-1 9-1 thrashing
by Australia's Lisa Camilleri.
