World Squash Awards Dinner the Brainchild of Eventis Marketing

National squash awards are a long tradition in many squash playing nations, but for the first time this year there will be a set of international award for exemplary seasons. The concept of these new awards have been in discussion for several years by several organizations, but have been finally brought to fruition through the initiative of Eventis Sports Marketing. They have convened a panel of judges, and established awards in several categories.

The nominees for the inaugural World Squash Awards were announced today by event promoters Eventis Sports Marketing. Taking place at the RAC in Pall Mall (London, England) on Friday 6th May 2005 the awards will be celebrate a year of fantastic squash with the winners of each category being announced on the night.

The independent panel was made up from several areas of the squash community as follows: Colin McQuillan (Journalist: The Times), John Nimick (Commercial promoter: Event Engine), Mark Chaloner (Men's PSA President), Andrew Shelley (Women's WISPA Executive Director), Joyce Buckley (World Squash Federation Management Committee).

The award nominees as decided by the World Squash Awards panel are as follows:

Male Player of the Year
Lee Beachill
Thierry Lincou
James Willstrop

Female Player of the Year
Vanessa Atkinson
Natalie Grinham
Rachael Grinham

Young Male Player of the Year
Ramy Ashour
Chris Simpson
James Willstrop

Young Female Player of the Year
Nicol David
Omneya El Kawy
Alison Waters

There will also be a Lifetime Achievement Award that will be presented on the night.
