French Junior makes smooth Transition to PSA Sept 17, 2001- France's twice European junior champion Gregory Gaultier claimed his first senior title on the PSA Tour when he beat Australia's Dan Jenson 15-7 15-10 17-15 in the final of the Ciutat de Barcelona Squash Open. Unseeded Gaultier, 18, from Aix-en-Provence, took out Canada's second seed Shahier Razik in the opening round, before overcoming England's third seed Adrian Grant to reach the final. It was a disappointing outcome for seventh seed Jenson who is making his comeback after a year layoff recovering from a back injury. The 26-year-old from Adelaide, a world mixed doubles gold medallist in December 1997, reached a career-high world No5 in January 1999 after an impressive run the previous year which included a semi-final berth in the 1998 British Open. RESULTS: Ciutat de Barcelona Squash Open, Barcelona, Spain Final: Gregory Gaultier (FRA) bt [7] Dan Jenson (AUS) 15-7 15-10 17-15 Semi-finals: Quarter-finals: |
