Canadian Contingent undefeated in teams in Mexico City

CANADIANS TAKE BRONZES IN PAN AM JUNIOR SINGLES

FOUR BRONZE MEDALS FOR CANADA AT PAN AM JUNIOR SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS MEXICO CITY-Jacqui Inward of Peterborough, Ont., Matthew Serediak of Regina, Brendan Abercrombie of Prince George, B.C, and Marci Sier of Shanty Bay, Ont., all won bronze medals at the Pan Am junior squash championships.

In the women's under-19 division, Michelle Quibell of the U.S., took the gold defeating Diana Huerta of Mexico in the final. Inward, Canada's number-one ranked junior, beat American Amy Gross for the bronze. Cassie DiSerio of Toronto was fifth, Miranda Ranieri of Waterloo, Ont., sixth and Jennifer Blumberg of Victoria ninth.

In men's under-19, Erick Galvez of Mexico defeated compatriot Jorge Baltazar in the final while Abercrombie took third spot defeating Andrew Jones of Georgetown, Ont. William Cheng of Toronto was 11th and Colin Ramasra of London, Ont., 13th.

In men's under-17, it was another all-Mexican final as Mauricio Sanchez beat Gibran Ruiz. Serediak took the bronze medal match over Manuel Fregoso of Mexico. Andrew Janzik of Calgary was eighth, Wes Chan of Calgary 10th and Danny Mclellan of Kitchener, Ont., 11th.

In the women's under-17, Audrey Duboc of the U.S., defeated Isabel Restrepo of Columbia in the final. Sier took Ashley Clackson of Victoria for the bronze. Anne-Christine LaJoie of Vaudreuil, Que., was fifth and Radhika Ahluwalia of Mississauga, Ont., 10th. The team event goes through to Sunday.
