CANADA WINS TEAM GOLD AT PAN AM JUNIOR SQUASH

MEXICO CITY--Canada won the gold medal in dramatic fashion in the women's under-17 category and added a silver and bronze in other age groups Sunday to conclude the inaugural Pan Am junior squash championships.

In the women's under-17, the Canadians scored a 2-1 victory in their final round robin match against the U.S., to finish in first place. The tournament was a straight round robin with no playoff.

Radhika Ahluwalia of Mississauga, Ont., won the deciding match 3-2. Other team members were Marci Sier of Shanty Bay, Ont., Anne-Christine Lajoie of Vaudreuil, Que., and Ashley Clackson of Victoria.

In the women's under-19, the Americans got their revenge by winning gold while Canada with Jacqui Inward of Peterborough, Ont., Cassie Diserio of Toronto, Miranda Ranieri of Waterloo, Ont., and Jennifer Blumberg of Victoria took the silver.

Mexico swept gold in the two men's categories. Canadians won the bronze in the under-19 with Andrew Jones of Georgetown, Ont., Brendan Abercrombie of Prince George, B.C., William Cheng of Toronto and Colin Ramasra of London, Ont.

In the men's under-17 Canada was fourth. Team members were Matt Serediak of Regina, Danny Mclellan of Kitchener, Ont., and Calgrians Wes Chan and Andrew Janzik.
