Power, 23, defeated Roberto Pozatta of Argentina 8-10, 10-9, 9-6, 9-3 in his second round match Saturday. Shawn DeLierre of Brossard, Que., won his first round match but was eliminated in the second round by a Mexican player in the maximum five games. Josh McDonald of Toronto fell in the first round Friday. "My goal is to win this tournament," said Power, who works at the Club sportif MAA in Montreal. "But I wasn't happy with the way I played tonight. I blew a big lead in the first game and missed some opportunities. It was also impossible to communicate with the referees because they only spoke Spanish or Portugese." In women's play, top-seed Margot Green of Ottawa, Alana Miller of Winnipeg and player-coach Amanda Paton of Edmonton also all qualified for the quarterfinal with victories in second round play Saturday. Another Power family member Courtnay was eliminated in the first round. The Canadians are the strongest squash nation in the Americas but have sent a developmental team to this tournament. The last time the Americas met was at the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg last year and the Canadians steamrolled to all four gold medals. Competition continues Sunday.
