CANADIAN WOMEN TO FIGHT FOR GOLD AT PAN AM SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS
BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil-- Canada's women's team qualified for the gold medal match Saturday at the Pan American team squash championships as it completed round robin play with a perfect 4-0 record defeating Argentina 3-0. Meanwhile the Canadian men lost their semifinal match to Brazil 3-0 and will battle for the bronze Sunday against Argentina. In women's play Alana Miller of Winnipeg, Amanda Paton of Edmonton and Courtney Power of Toronto were on the court for the top-seeded Canadians against Argentina.

"We'll be tough to beat for gold," said Canadian national team coach Gene Turk of Winnipeg. In the Canada-Brazil men's match, Josh McDonald of Toronto, Shawn DeLierre of Brossard, Que., and Ian Power of Toronto couldn't solve the strong Brazilians which brought their A team to the tournament while Canada is here with a developmental squad. Canada is ranked number-one in both men's and women's play based on its victories at the Pan Am Games last year in Winnipeg.
