Canada falls to Wales, ends 8th, England tops Egypt for title.

CANADA FINISHES EIGHTH AT WORLD JUNIORS MILAN,

England defeated top-seed Egypt 2-1 to successfully defend its men's team title Saturday at the world junior squash championships while Canada finished eighth. In an epic final which nearly lasted four hours, England's Philip Barker won the third and deciding match 5-9, 2-9, 9-2, 9-5, 9-2 over Mahmoud Abdel Kader. England was seeded second.

World singles champion Karim Darwish kept Egypt's hopes alive winning the second match over James Wilstrop 8-10, 9-2, 8-10, 10-8, 9-2 in a marathon 89 minutes. Daryl Selby provided the English with a 1-0 lead defeating Akram Youssif 9-6, 3-9, 10-8, 9-0.

After a great start to the tournament, fifth-seeded Canada lost a third straight match losing the seventh place playoff to No. 8 Wales 2-1. The Canadians finish eighth overall. They were sixth at the last world juniors 1998. Jay Abdul defeated David Yik of Vancouver 9-5, 9-5,9-6; Welsh No. 1 Scott Fitzgerald beat Shawn DeLierre of Brossard, Que., 9-0, 9-1, 9-1 while Canadian junior champion Matthew Giuffre of Edmonton defeated Ricky Davies 9-3, 5-9, 9-7. DeLierre's performance last week in singles play was the highlight for Canada. The 18-year-old reached the quarterfinals for Canada's best performances since Jonathon Power of Toronto won the silver medal in 1992.

Pakistan defeated France 2-1 for the bronze, while Spain beat Malaysia 2-1 for fifth.
