The Penn women's squash team defeated Dartmouth, 9-0, Sunday afternoon to capture its first-ever Ivy League championship in the program's 24-year history. The win also gives the Quakers their first-ever regular season national championship. Penn finishes the regular season 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Ivy League after three straight third-place Ivy and national finishes. The Quakers, fresh off Saturday's 6-3 win over No. 2 Harvard in Cambridge, had no trouble with the Big Green, winning eight of nine matches by a 3-0 score. Senior Katie Patrick (Edmonton, Alberta), freshman Runa Reta (Ottawa, Ontario) and Rina Borromeo (Phillippines) each won in three games at the Nos. 1-3 positions, respectively. Also winning 3-0 were juniors Helen Bamber (Zimbabwe) and Lauren Patrizio (Philadelphia) at No. 4 and 5, respectively. Junior Megan Fuller (Lake Tahoe, Nev.) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games. Wrapping up the perfect day with 3-0 wins were senior Paige Kollock (Wyndmoor, Pa.) at No. 7, sophomore Chrissy Eynon (Cincinnati, Ohio) at No. 8 and senior Patti Lin (Toms River, N.J.) at No. 9. The Quakers will turn their attention to the Howe Cup national team championships to be held February 18-20 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. |
