Omneya Celebrates Historic Win

There was a historic outcome in the battle between the world's leading two juniors in the final qualifying round of the AON Women's Texas Squash Open in Houston, USA, when 16-year-old Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy registered her first ever win over her great rival Nicol David, the two-times world junior champion from Malaysia.

Kawy, who lost in straight games to David in the world individual final in Penang last July, then again 3-0 in the team event the following week, twice came from behind to claim her morale-boosting 0-9 9-7 5-9 9-6 9-6 victory which secures her a place in the first round of the $36,000 WISPA World Tour event in Houston.

Omneya Abdel Kawy and Nicol David, now 18, have regularly met in international junior competition since the pair contested the final of the U-14 British Junior Open in January 1997 - when Omneya was just 11 years old.
