MACREE WINS REMATCH AGAINST
BRIND
For Rebecca Macree and Stephanie Brind, it was a rematch of their
close and contentious match at Grand Central Terminal in New York
last month. On that occasion, Brind and Macree were doing a lot
of pushing and shoving but Brind maintained her focus and ended
out on top.
These two evenly matched players
compete neck and neck and so the mental element will make the
difference. On this occasion Brind unwisely put her focus on what
her opponent was doing, rather than on her own game. As a consequence
she was not able to establish a rhythm nor to take a game. She
fell 9-1, 9-2, 10-8.
DEFENSIVE DAY
The rest of the day's matches went to the favored player.
None of the matches was marked by any real offensive magic, rather
with the classic defensive battles that are the hallmark of most
of the competitors involved --- Chaloner against Johnson became
a not unexpected 80 minute four game battle and Beachill against
Harris, similarly a 66 minute four-gamer, with Beachill not in
significant danger throughout.
The remaining quarterfinals
all take place tomorrow evening.
