Second annual Glidden MacCracken Invitational By Alex Kam February 03, 2002. The Englewood Field Club in Englewood, NJ, hosted the second annual Glidden MacCracken Invitational tournament over this past weekend. The 16 player field was once again treated to an enjoyable weekend of competitive squash at their great squash facility. Paul Arrouet, the defending champion, once again took top honors defeating Chandy Bramwell in straight games in Sunday’s final. Bramwell demonstrated a high level of court craft but was worn down by the tenacious and heady brand of squash practiced by Arrouet who drove the ball consistently into the back corners and mixed in the occasional tight drop. The semifinal match between Arrouet and Alex Berger was a spirited affair with Berger coming back from a two game deficit to push it to a deciding game, but Arrouet overcame an early Berger lead to close it out. Bramwell defeated Neil Hellman in three games in the other semifinal showing the great touch and deception that befuddled Helman and every other opponent up to that point (myself included). Paul Marotta defeated Alex Kam in a seesaw five game match to win the consolation final. The weekend was highlighted by quality squash, a high level of sportsmanship, and the exceptional hospitality of this northern New Jersey squash center. Thanks again to Michael Scherl and the club leadership for continuing what has become a much anticipated event on the squash calendar.
