South African veteran PSA competitor Rodney Durbach became the first Virginia Professional Squash Champion on Saturday night. Czech upstart Jan Koukal, who scored several upsets leading up to the finals was not ready to pack it in for the finals. Though he lost in three games, the Czech made sure that the match was not one sided. He fought every point.

In front of a packed gallery of approximately 250 spectators the finalists produced some spectacular squash. Koukal seemed to be particularly effective at the start of each game, hitting some devastating short cross court winners.

The quickness eventually seeped away in all three stanzas, with Durbach playing thoughtful strokes that inevitably gave him the edge.
