France Beats South Africa  [The Pools]

After Canada’s upset, France followed suit and beat South Africa to win Pool F and earn a bye into the quarter finals. France, seeded seven, were one below South Africa and the two countries played a nail-biting match with a noise level that exceeded the USA vs Canada encounter.

Malaysia will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between the USA and France. Based on their performance against Germany I don’t think they will find the going easy against either of those teams.

In the preliminary seeding before the tournament started England were third and Malaysia fifth, but as no England player reached the round of 16 in the individuals and Malaysia had three players, the positions were switched. Their seeding of three flatters them.

POOL ROUNDUP
POOL A
Egypt won and will now play the winners of South Africa vs Australia in the quarters.

POOL B
Hong Kong, the second seed have small tough players and could well be the team to face Egypt in the final. Their quarter-final opponent will be either Wales or New Zealand.

POOL C
Won by Malaysia who beat Belgium 2/1 and had a real fight against Germany. If they are successful in their quarter-final, they are almost certain to face Hong Kong.

POOL D
Canada were the surprise winner’s at the expense of the USA and will probably meet England in the quarters. They have beaten their ninth seeding and could easily finish fifth. Second place USA could beat France and if the team is in top form, could beat Malaysia.

POOL E
England won and will have a warm up match against Germany tomorrow before meeting Canada in the quarters.

POOL F
France upset South Africa to take the top spot.

THE SHAKEDOWN
If they are no upsets then Egypt will play England in one semi-final with Hong Kong facing Malaysia in the other.

That will leave South Africa, Canada, USA and New Zealand to fight for the 5-8 places which should be more fun and have more drama than watching the top four.

So tomorrow the fun really starts. No more Miss Nice Gal – the nails are out!
