TEAM USA - HEAVY TRAINING MODE
[also week six update]         [week seven update]

CJ Plimpton, Trevor McGuinness, Todd Ruth, Todd Harrity and Chris Callis took advantage of their early semester end from school and began a full week of training at the Club at CHASS.

Joe Russell, one of the top singles players in the Philadelphia region, worked with the team with court drills, ghosting, strategy, scrimmages and on-court conditioning, while Mike Jeffreys, a former coach for Zimbabwe's Junior Mens team, worked with the players on anaerobic conditioning, fitness and endurance. Local Pros also joined in the training and match play with the team.

Some of the players also took time to hit with the Philadelphia-based SquashSmarts team as they prepared for the Urban Nationals. The US Junior Men's team has embraced the notion of community service and previously trained with players from both the SquashSmarts and SquashBusters programs as part of their outreach initiatives. Next week, the training and fund raising activities move to Greenwich.

Player Profile - Reed Endresen
The indisputable " heart and soul" of the team is the ebullient Reed Endresen who captured one of the two open team positions after a stellar year concluding with a victory at team trials in Boston.  Reed was seeded 5th in a field of 6 competitors, and won the first round in a closely contested five gamer over CJ Plimpton. He then defeated top seed Todd Ruth in another four game match. In the finals, he faced the steady and tenacious Todd Harrity who took any early lead winning the first two out of three games. The fourth game went to a tie breaker, but Reed persevered, and then easily took the fifth game and third spot on the team. He ended the year nationally ranked seventh in the BU19s, and has always ranked in the top five places in his age divisions.

Reed completed his junior year this month at Rye Country Day School, and he follows former classmate Joe Raho, a Rye Country Day grad and member of the 2004 team that competed in Pakistan. And like his school mate, Reed trained with the world famous Peter Briggs at New York's Apawamis Club. Briggs was a top junior and collegiate singles champ, and is best known for the number of top-ranked juniors who have excelled in the game under him.  Most recently, Reed has also trained with Australian Rodney Martin who added new dimensions to his game.  In his spare time, Reed enjoys golf, plays soccer and recently received Team USA's PDS Award.
