Mark Allen, the US Junior Women's Teamcoach will announce monday that, the U.S. team for this summer's World Junior Team Championships has been chosen - or part of it anyway! Lily Lorentzen from Greenwich, Connecticut, and Kristan Lange of Seattle, gained their places on the team following the US Junior National Championships that were held in Baltimore last weekend. Lorentzen won the U.19 division, and whilst Lange lost in the semi-finals here results over the whole season justified her automatic selection. Emery Maine (Philadelphia Cricket Club), who defeated Lange in last weeks tournament, Amanda Siebert from Greenwich, Connecticut, and Dartmouth College #1 Christie Aleaxander will play in a 3 way play off in Washington DC / Alexandria, Virginia, that will determine which of these girls take up the last two positions on the team.
The play off weekend will be from March 25 - 27. Maine will play Siebert at Results The Gym at 6.30pm on Friday night, and then Maine will play Alexander at Episcopal High School at 2pm on the Saturday. If necessary Siebert and Alexander will play on Sunday, back at Results at 1pm. In addition to the play off matches taking place, National Coaches Natalie Grainger and Mark Allen will be hosting a series of clinics, exhibition matches and events aimed at raising some of the funds that the team needs to travel to Europe on July 19th. To find out about these fund raising activities, please e-mail Natalie at natgno1@hotmail.com (but not today, she is busy preparing for the finals of the Kuwait Open in which she upset Vanessa Atkinson in the semis.) The remainder
of the squad; Toby Eyre, Katy Brewster, Britt Hebden, Kaitlin Senatt,
Sydney Scott, and Emily Park are expected to compete in the World Individual
Championships that take place a week prior to the team event.
