Power Gets Lahore Prize ...
LAHORE, March 28 (PNS): Jonathan Power of Canada came from behind to dethrone world Number 1 and top seed Peter Nicole of England in the 87 minutes final of the US $ 105,000 Pakistan Open Squash Tournament Wednesday night.

Peter Nicol was hot favourite to clinch the title but was knocked out by a determined Jonathan Power who ranks three in the world.

Right from the beginning Jonathan Power kept pressure on Peter who on many occasion looked somewhat out of his magic touch. The first set was almost an easy affair for the Canadian as he had to exert very little to take the initial lead.

Power established a 13-7 lead in the first game, unleashing some brilliant cross court forehand shots coupled with some disguised drop nicks which caught Nicol on the wrong foot. Power took the first game 15-10 in 27 minutes.

Peter Nicol came back with renewed aggression in the second set after facing strong and tough resistance from Jonathan. They were at par three times during this set — 6-6, 10-10 and 13-13.

At that point the experienced Nicol resorted to calculated moves, realising that he was already one down. That paid him the dividend and he won the second set 13-15. But this was all he had to achieve.

Jonathan Power took lead in the third set right from the beginning and moved ahead of Englishman Nicol beating him 15-10 with 2-1 lead. After going 1-2 down in the game, Peter Nicol saw the match slipping off his grip.

A determined Nicol made a comeback and engaged his opponent till the last point in the decider. The final scoreline was 15-10, 13-15, 15-10, 15-14.

A determined Jonathan Power treated Peter many severe blows, not just on the points table but in the court. Jonathan slipped in the court on many occasions in a bid to save precious points causing interruptions. Peter faced similar situation only once during the final.

Power is likely to displace David Palmer of Australia as world number two in next month's world rankings and would start April's British open as favourite.
