Three of Friday's four matches provided routine expected wins for higher ranked players. The fourth was a breakthrough of sorts for Nicol David, who despite enormous promise when she turned pro, has had difficulty earning wins over top 20 players. With her win, David now creates an intriguing semi final matchup today against veteran Cassie Jackman.

Malaysia's unseeded Nicol David pulled off one of the most satisfying victories of her career when she upset fourth seed Rebecca Chiu in the
quarter-finals of the Women's Squashworks Open in Salt Lake City, USA, to avenge the sound defeat by her Hong Kong rival in last October's Asian Games
final in South Korea.

David, the 19-year-old record two-times world junior champion from Penang, is on a comeback trail after taking a break from the WISPA World Tour last year. The former world No16, now ranked outside the top 40, beat Chiu 9-6 10-9 4-9 9-4 in their first meeting since their historic clash in Busan.

Nicol David - who is currently based in Amsterdam where she trains with Dutch
national coach Liz Irving, the former world No2 from Australia - now faces
top seed Cassie Jackman, the England No1 who crushed Ireland's Madeline Perry
9-4 9-1 9-0.

The other semi-final will also be an Anglo-Malaysian affair - between sixth
seed Sharon Wee, currently the highest-ranked Malaysian in the world, and
England's third seed Vicky Botwright.
